BIOGRAPHY

Eddy Slap was born in Amsterdam into a portuguese higly musical family in 1978. He began his musical studies at the age of just 4 years in Portugal at the Amateurs Music Academy of Évora, then at the Music Course of Évora University and Hot Clube of Portugal Jazz School. He attended various master classes with such renowed teachers as Trilok Gurtu, Carles Benavent, Yuri Daniel, Stefan Milleret, Carlos Bica, etc. His wide range of interests and his musical curiosity led him along different paths of musical expression, from a typical classical repertoire to pure jazz, ethnic and improvised music. After a period of study, he began to write for a variety of different musical settings. Meanwhile, Eddy Slap's career as a recording artist and live performer has continued to develop in a multicultural direction. Since 1992, he has been involved in new and innovative music projects such as Wild Angels, Grupo de Percussão de Évora, Tubophonia Jazz Ensemble, Audible Architecture, Uxu Kalhus, 2Basses, Bassab Eddy Slap Project, etc, and worked on a regular basis with several portuguese orchestras and big bands including the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, Big Band Time, Lisbon Casino Big Band, Hybrid Jazz Machine. Eddy Slap as played and conducted a series of master classes in prestigious Superior Music Schools and Festivals around the world (Portugal, Spain, France, Macau, etc). He's currently touring with Uxu Kalhus and Bassab Eddy Slap Project. He's the founder of the first Electric Bass Academy in Portugal. Eddy Slap teaches electric bass at the Electric Bass Academy (Lisbon) and Jazz & Modern Music Course of Caldas da Rainha Conservatory. Eddy Slap has recorded at the time, more than 40 albums. His solo recording has been described by many as a unique stylistic blend, bringing together the folk music of Eastern Europe with Jazz. Since 2013 Eddy Slap became a Le Fay Basses Artist, and in 2014 he became Pirastro String and TecAmp endorser.
